The 5th KLAARA Conference will take place from 27 to 29 May 2027 in Hildesheim and will be hosted by the Research Centre for Easy Language at the University of Hildesheim. Following previous venues in Helsinki, Finland (2019), Aarau, Switzerland (2022), Porto, Portugal (2023) and Riga, Latvia (2025) – the organising team is delighted to invite the international Easy Language community to Lower Saxony. The date has been deliberately chosen to coincide with International Easy Language Day in order to strengthen the global relevance and networking of the topic and to provide a platform for current scientific exchange, international dialogue and innovative practical projects.

The KLAARA Conference is the most important specialist forum for academics, practitioners and organisations involved in Easy Language and accessible communication. The aim of the conference is to present the latest research findings, best practices and theoretical developments from various countries and to develop them further together. Anyone involved in Easy Language, accessibility, inclusion, translation and accessibility is invited to submit contributions, offer workshops or participate in panels.

The topics range from social participation to methods of text simplification, linguistic and psycholinguistic perspectives, international standards and the application of Easy Language in everyday life, education and administration. The exchange with users is also traditionally a central focus in order to achieve real added value for practice. The KLAARA Conference explicitly promotes interdisciplinary approaches and sees itself as an international interface.

The conference will be held in English and German. The connection to International Easy Language Day opens up the opportunity to present and jointly develop best practice examples and advances from around the world. Another item on the agenda is the presentation of the KLAARA Award for outstanding research and practical initiatives.

Interested parties can now contact the Plain Language Research Centre at sprache@uni-hildesheim.de to be added to the mailing list or to ask questions. In addition, a WhatsApp group will be set up, the link to which will be communicated shortly via the official call and the website. This will allow the community to remain closely connected until the conference begins and to continuously exchange information about organisational matters, topic suggestions and current developments.

The organisers look forward to welcoming numerous international and regional guests, exciting contributions and a lively debate on plain language and accessible communication.
